CAHON Mission Statement:

Founded by Chinese American Hematologists and Oncologists in 2005, the primary missions of CAHON are to foster communications amongst Chinese American medical professionals for the delivery of high-quality health care to patients with neoplastic and hematological diseases, and to promote medical information exchange between the United States and China in the field of hematology and oncology. CAHON strives to serve as a bridge among its members and between Chinese and American Hematology-Oncology communities for medical and educational exchange.

History & Milestones:
  • 12/1999 Began informal group meetings by some Chinese American Hematologists and Oncologists (CAHOs) at the ASH and ASCO annual meeting
  • 2/2004 A 23 member CAHON Organizing Committee formed The Open Letter from Organizing Committee sent outThe CAHON inaugural member meeting at 2005 ASCO (by 35 members among whom 12 were fellows-in-training, including 4 Young Investigator Awards and 1 Merit Awardees at 2005 ASCO)
  • 5/2005 CAHON president and president-elect nominatedNine founding organizers started to draft the Bylaws and form the Board of Directors accordingly in consultation with CAHON business and legal advisors
  • 09/2005Draft of CAHON Bylaws sent to all members for input
  • 10/2005 CAHON was formally registered in New York State as a non-profit organization

  • 11/2005 The Executive Committee appointed by the CAHON President, and the Board of Directors announced to its membersThe CAHON Bylaws, the founding Board Chair and Chair-elect, the founding President and President-elect formally approved by the BoardThe inaugural CAHON reception at 2005 ASH for its members and guests invited from US and Chinese hem/onc communities.
  • 12/2005 The inaugural CAHON reception at 2005 ASH for its members and guests invited from US and Chinese hem/onc communities.
  • 06/2006 The first CAHON annual reception at 2006 ASCO for its members and guests invited from US and Chinese hem/oncology communities.
  • 08/2006 The draft of "Guidance of Work Ethics for CAHON Executive team" and "Presidential Operational Plan for CAHON 2006-07" are released to all members for input, with links to those two pdf documents as attached here
  • 10/2006 CAHON new executive team assembled with more volunteer members, and CAHON Strategic Plan is released to all members for input.
  • 12/2006  semi-annual meeting/reception at 2006 ASH was successfully held in conjunction with PER sponsored educational component
  • 06/2007 CAHON 2nd annual meeting/reception at 2007 ASCO was successfully held in conjunction with PER sponsored educational component. Presidential annual report (2006-07) on CAHON is attached
